If you happen to have your vacation in Siquijor Island or Dumaguete City, might as well make the most of your vacation by visiting the neighboring island, the Apo Island.
From Siquijor Island, some resorts offer a trip to Apo Island. But if you are from Dumaguete City, it is budget-wise to commute (take a Ceres Bus) to Malatapay Port , Zamboanguita, Negros Oriental. From there, you can rent a boat or just sign up as a joiner for an Apo Island tour if you are alone.
This island has a rich marine life protected by their marine sanctuary. You can see a variety of corals, schools of fishes, and even swim with sea turtles! Not knowing how to swim is not a problem because life jackets are provided. If you didn’t bring your own snorkeling paraphernalia, rentals are available in the island. Just be sure to wear proper swimming attire to avoid excessive exposure under the sun.
A guide is provided for every 4 snorkeling tourists to ensure everyone’s safety. They also offer to take pictures and videos while you’re enjoying the sight underwater. There are few rules to follow to maintain the peace underwater, and the guides are sure to explain them and answer questions if you have any.
It is also wise to bring your own food because food in the island is a bit costly for the locals buy their supplies from the Negros Island. Or if you don’t want any hassle preparing food and carrying them, just inform some eateries located along the beach, in advance for them to have time to prepare your food.
It is really fun to explore everything, most especially those underwater. But may we all be mindful to our actions for they may have a long-lasting effect on our environment. Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints and kill nothing but time.
